After field hockey, there wasn't much left to do, but go on with the year and start bowling season! This year for bowling was the first year I was an offical member of the varsity squad, seeing as though last year I was the first substitute. Nevertheless, bowling is always a fun sport to play especially when you're the only girl in the varsity league and you have the privilage of kicking some boys in the butt while they seem amazed as if it was the first time they've seen a girl bowl better than them. Of course we all have our off days, but that didn't really stop the butt kicking. The varsity squad is made up of 4 seniors and 1 sophmore. We are all extremely close friends when we're bowling; we've made up handshakes and inside jokes everywhere! I'm the first bowler in order for the team, so as the girl it feels natural and slightly insulting when the other teams player, a boy, decides "Hey you go first girlie." I guess it's gentleman like, but when there is no possible way for me to go and you're already there... JUST BOWL!
Oh well, straying away from that... bowling is still awesome! Our team is composed of the number 1 and 2 top bowlers of the league too. This year has been amazing so far although it started off really bumpy. To get the bumpy part out of the way, this summer we were told that our assistant coach was killed in a car accident with her husband. They died on impact, and so did our hearts when the news spread. In memory of her, we made patches stamping her initials, DW, on our shirts so that she'd be with us at every game.
On a brighter note, we strove to do our best and take the 1st place spot for not only our coach, but also for the team and the school. We deserved to win it all and beat out the competition, and that's exactly what we did. We clenched 2nd place by the last few matches and it all came down to the final match against Roman Catholic, the team that always beat us out for 1st. This year was different when we traveled to Hi Spot lanes for the grand finale. Not to boast, but I bowled the best I have all year, and even beat all the boys on my team as well as on Roman. Again, we bolwed our hearts out and beat out Roman in the first game just by some odd numebr of pins. The pressure was still on and Roman wasn't going down without a fight. So the second game brought some more pressure and excitement. Roman cracked and we prevailed with some hundred pins to split the odds. By the third game Roman was out, but we still went out with a bang! Not only did we defeated the usual 1st place team, but we beat them at their own lanes, taking 4 games and we also became the Philadelphia Catholic League Southern Division Champions! A great feat for any coach and team to deal with! Our head coach was so happy and told us to win the whole thing! Within the next few weeks will be the championship and districts. I can feel something even more epic is coming our way and we're going to beat it down. Bowling never felt so good.
